the user has to know, that Mozilla is very much (still) dependant on Google’s money.

update: 2022-05:

  • okay… maybe Mrs Baker did not “destroy” Firefox-Mozilla, but at least brought it into the financial dependency on Google-Alphabet.
  • this means:
    • massive amount of money for Mozilla
      • “the deal, which ZDNet estimates is worth between $400 and $450 million per year” (src: theverge.com)
    • this financial dependency can impossibly go without “entangelment” X-D (meaning: it is almost as if Google bought Mozilla)

Always say something positive first:

  • Mozilla is-was a beacon of the internet, an icon for freedom and privacy.
  • THE ALTERNATIVE to the corporate browsers.
  • Mozilla’s software suite is truly essential to everyday life of Open Source based users, be it the browser, thunderbird with it’s excellent support for excellent mail sync over multiple devices via IMAP (might laugh but M$ had MASSIVE trouble supporting IMAP) & webdav for cross device (SAMSUNG A5 works great SAMSUNG S7 TABLET… FUNCTION REMOVED? #wtf GOOGLE? #wtf SAMSUNG?)
  • Mozilla has steadily worked to keep the web an open and free one, where no user had to be afraid of freedom of speech

now the not so positive:

  • the problem is: Mozilla has become completely dependent on funding from Google… and everything that goes with it.
    • while this (should) allow to pour a lot of money into “alternative” projects, Google can any time cut the funding, if Mozilla does something, Google does not like (like create alternative products and services).
    • so complete loss of independence there
      • via a donation system of $1 per year per user… this could have been easily avoided

The software quality will probably get worse and worse & maybe Firefox will disappear completely. Why? Two reasons. Mozilla (the company/foundation behind Firefox) had (now actually they still have) a contract with Google, Mozilla will participate in advertising revenues if Google becomes the default search engine in Firefox.

Probably Google also has/had infiltrated Mozilla to extract as much valuable info as possible to copy it into Chrome browser.

Betrayed and sold: Yes, also corrupt women exist:

the answer should: MRS BAKER, PLEASE RESIGN & LET SOMEONE ELSE DO THE JOB, SO YOU CAN FINALLY GO SOMEWHERE ELSE AND EARN 5x MORE MONEY WITHOUT DESTROYING THE INTERNET & MOZILLA FOUNDATION! THANK YOU!

IN OTHER WORDS: GET LOST BEFORE YOU DO MORE “GOOD”! (ME SO ANGRY!)

“Congratulations” to everyone involved!

why is firefox connecting to amazon web services on every startup?

it is said to be because of the “hotel wifi login portal” problem, here is an explanation how it works: https://ghost.reverside.ch/hijacking-detectportal-firefox-com/

firefox tries to load that file: https://detectportal.firefox.com/success.txt

which is hosted at amazon…

host detectportal.firefox.com
detectportal.firefox.com is an alias for detectportal.prod.mozaws.net.
detectportal.prod.mozaws.net is an alias for prod.detectportal.prod.cloudops.mozgcp.net.
prod.detectportal.prod.cloudops.mozgcp.net has address 34.107.221.82
prod.detectportal.prod.cloudops.mozgcp.net has IPv6 address 2600:1901:0:38d7::
