thanks for inkscape, it’s an amazing alternative to closed source desktop publishing.

usually it works very well, but had some bad experience when files.svg created with Inkscape 1.2 (Debian 12)

were edited with 1.4 (Debian 13)

then exported to pdf: half of the pdf was not loading and something happened to the files the file.svg and the output.pdf are now both broken X-D

so maybe stay with inkscape 1.2 (run it in a vm?) until things are sorted out

would go so far as to say: NEVER USE WORD FOR for doctoral thesis if the user cares about beauty of layout

inkscape can do that, just maybe break it down into chapter1.svg chapter2.svg and so on.

by supporting svg format inkscape is theoretically Adobe illustrator compatible (UNTESTED!) (“Adobe was an early developer of SVG for the web and Illustrator exported SVG files via the SVG File Format plugin.[13] Using the Adobe SVG Viewer (ASV), introduced in 2000, allowed users to view SVG images in most major browsers until it was discontinued in 2009.[14] Native support for SVG was not complete in all major browsers until Internet Explorer 9 in 2011.[15]“)
