- in 2025-07 DEBIAN 13 IS STILL “TESTING” (BETA)! USER HAS BEEN WARNED! 😀 (written on Debian 13)
- if the user get’s random strange errors during setup someone keeps fucking up the debian installer 🙁 (folder, iso)
- so can not recommend to get the latest iso (it may or may not work)
- LAN connect PC or Laptop and get this older but tested version:
- wget https://dwaves.org/software/iso/debian/debian-13-testing-amd64-netinst.iso.zst
- wget https://dwaves.org/software/iso/debian/debian-13-testing-amd64-netinst.iso.zst.sha512sum.txt
- sha512sum -c debian-13-testing-amd64-netinst.iso.zst.sha512sum.txt; # if it shows “OK” continue
- su – root; apt install unzstd; # if not installed install
- unzstd debian-13-testing-amd64-netinst.iso.zst; # unpack
- attach to USB 3.0 or 2.0 prefered (more speed) and boot from USB stick
- 1:1 write iso to usb stick like shown below
- getting OS to work should be straight forward, simple, easy
- it (usually) is straight forward with Debian too
- in theory and also in practice, once Debian is installed on a machine (vm) then 1:1 copying the harddisk (booting target with Debian live iso usb stick or DVD-R and then receiving 1:1 copy dd-over-ssh “remote cloning harddisks” to be written to /dev/sda) = IT JUST WORKS 😀
- if the user has to setup from scratch: test multiple iso until one works
- if things don’t install properly (like apt install mate-desktop) it might not be the user’s fault… but something along the whole setup process might have gone wrong. just try the next iso X-D
- some debian testing 13 iso work, some don’t
- this one worked @ 2025-07-11: if the user wants to get as much packages on USB stick as possible (recommended)
- 0. get a fast usb stick with at least 8GBytes those SanDisk usually work (some USB sticks are unbootable)
- 1. BACKUP ALL IMPORTANT USER DATA OR USE A PC LAPTOP WITHOUT ANY IMPORTANT USERDATA
- 2. DISCONNECT THE BACKUP (FROM USB AND POWER)
- 3. 1:1 dd it onto a usb stick DOUBLE CHECK THE USB STICK’s DRIVE LETTER
-
umount /dev/sdX*; dd if=/path/to/debian-13-testing-amd64-netinst.iso of=/dev/sdX status=progress; sync;
- attach USB stick to USB port of PC (preferably a blue usb 2.0 or 3.0 port)
- also attach PC to LAN or have a known-to-work USB wifi dongle attached (it is basically a unwritten rule, that during setup GUN Linux Debian pulls latest packages from an archive mirror and setup without internet MIGHT work but it will most likely fail)
- straight after power on hit DEL or F2 like crazy in order to get into BIOS
- in BIOS make sure the USB device is selected to be booted from first
- after F10 and restarting the bios the Debian setup screen should show up
- non graphical setup with debian mate desktop was installed pretty fast from above DVD-1.iso via non-graphical mode
- because having most required packages on USB 2.0 or 3.0 stick = very fast 😀 (way faster than inet because inet speeds in Germany SUCK!!!)
- GOOD LUCK ALL USERS AND DEVS INVOLVED 😀 MIGHT THE SRC BE WITH THE USER 😀
