the USB cable coming with this cost effective unit is VERY SHORT and NOT WELL SHIELDED
had an older adapter of the same brand without any problems doing backups on FRONT USB
copy oeprations would stall and even keyboard and mouse became non-reactive
fast forward a few years: the same adapter of the same brand has frequent problems writing to the disk
connected to BACK USB port and things became better
