usually it works like this… the user sets upa Template (like basic WindowsXXX or Linux installation) and clone this template for various purposes (spezialize on…).

in KVM it looks like this:

su - root
virt-clone --connect=qemu:///system --original CloneThisVM --name NameOfClone --file /where/to/store/NameOfClone.qcow2
