linus torvalds hates backups, he like everyone else, tends to not do them.
but if you feel your multiple wordpress installations should be backed up, in case some russian spam-hacker manages to completely compromise your site(s).
you can install this backup mechanism in 5 seconds:
automated backups once a week:
1. become root
su
2. edit crontab file
crontab -e
3. add these two lines CHANGE THE PASSWORD TO YOUR MYSQL ROOT PASSWORD!
0 0 * * 0 mysqldump -u root --password=ajklsjkldjlk --all-databases > /var/$(date +%Y-%m-%d)_alldb.sql # backup complete mysql database once a week 0 0 * * 0 mysqldump -u root --password=ajklsjkldjlk --all-databases > /var/$(date +%Y-%m-%d)_alldb.sql # backup complete mysql database once a week 0 0 * * 0 tar fcvz /var/$(date +%Y-%m-%d)_www.tar.gz /var/www # backup all website-files
so it looks like this:
