First of all: LESS software is BETTER than MORE SOFTWARE, why?

Because LESS software means LESS errors. There is NO FLAWLESS SOFTWARE, even the Spaceshuttle Software contained SOME errors.

What businesses and people need are not fancy desctops with transparent windows… they need reliable sleak fast operation systems with reliable and failure-proof filesystems…

that’s why i recommmend you to STICK with EXT3 for the next 4 years, despite EXT4 beeing faster.

Why?

Because you might lose your files FASTER with a FASTER filesystem that destroys itself on fsck. ( i had that on a QNAP!!!!)

You can assume software that was under constant development for 10 YEARS to be kind of solid (Office, Windows 7).

But ofcourse as producers want to implement new features (with or without asking their customers if they actually need it) things could fall apart AGAIN.

Today i encountered a strange Error on Ubuntu Server Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS running in Oracle Virtualbox VM.

Virtualbox 4.2.14 r86644

The VM is used to store and share a large amount of files and have them fast, easy and reliable accessable to Windows 7 32 Bit installations in a 20 Computers network.

Unfortunately: I picked the default proposed filesystem ext4 … i will migrate the file-sharing VM to debian with ext3 and see if the error persists. ( i guess not)

I have to say, this error has nothing to do with ext4 i guess… i simply tried to add a second virtual harddisk and format it ext3 and label it data.

Which should normally be possible without errors…

But i guess that’s when you implement new features and forget to test the old ones 😀

I am not saying that Ubuntu is a bad operation-system… but less is mostly more.

Debian Netinst-CD-Image

debian ext3
