i hate to wait 5-30 seconds during boot… (knoppix default)

check your grub version:

grub-probe --version

they keep changing their config-layouts (ARGH! GUYS! PLEASE NOT AGAIN!)

modify grub2 timeout:

vim /etc/default/grub

# /boot/grub/grub.cfg.
# For full documentation of the options in this file, see:
#   info -f grub -n 'Simple configuration'

GRUB_DEFAULT=0
GRUB_TIMEOUT=1
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian`
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="

:wq # write and quit vim

update-grub; # regenerate grub files
reboot; # test if it wörks :-D

with Grub version x

you have to edit this file:

vim /boot/grub/menu.lst

modify line:

timeout 30

no need to run any update commands 🙂
