it’s really really nasty.

this is the second time this happens to me.

i created an exchange account on an samsung galaxy s3 with cyanogen mod 10.2.0-i9300 to sync it with kerio.

this worked for a while… but when i had to hard restart the server… things fell apart.

EXCHANGE IS MICROSOFT – DO NOT USE ON LINUX DEVICES – USE IMAP FOR MAIL-SYNC (WORKS GREAT) ONLY AND BACKUP YOUR CONTACTS MANUALLY

the filesystem is completely in tact… so that is not the problem.

the problem is a bug in kerio hat allows you not to resume your sync if the kerio connect server was not shut down properly last time.

the solution to this problem would be to remove the mobile device of the user… and then add it again. but this fails too. (kerio mail server simply crashes)

kerio can not remove mobile (android) device - all contacts gone on device - can only reset - massive (contact) dataloss

so you are stuck… and the only thing you can do is restore a old snapshot… throwing away all the changes / contacts you added to your mobile addressbook between now and your last snapshot.

for a company that wants to offer customers the best possible solutions – this is reason enough for dwaves to abandon kerio and search for a more reliable groupware.

To be honest… what we loved about kerio:

o debian linux compatible

o ease of use of the web server gui

o imaps working like a charm

kerio server gui

what we did not like about kerio:

o exchange not working reliable, instabilities with mobile devices

… but i have to admit i tested an old version of kerio… i don’t know if those problems have been fixed in the new versions.

this problem would not be that severe… if the exchange-protocol-implementation-whatever on the samsung device would save a local copy of the contacts / mails / calendar… and use this local cache if there is no sync available…

but in this situation… if you loose sync… your adressbook will simply be “empty”.

also your call log loses all the names… so you can’t tell anymore who is who… just loads of numbers.

not – acceptable.

ps: I was lucky… stoped the kerio engine with /etc/init.d/kerio-connect stop

then restarted the server… then tried and succeeded to remove the mobile device via kerio web gui from the user… know i try to re add the account… and hope all contacts are still there.
